[POLL] Tempo Vs. Residente: WTF Is Going On?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, by now you’d know that there’s a heated lyric battle going on between two artists of “la vieja escuela”: Tempo and Residente.
Both Puerto Rican artists have been battling it out on social media and dissing each other NASTY. If you came late to the chisme, this is what’s been going on in the Latin urban world.
About a week ago, Tempo, born David Sanchez, called out Rene “Residente” Perez for allegedly talking bad about the reggaeton scene. “In this genre, you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us,” he said on Instagram. “You’ve waited 11 years for someone to battle you, well here you go.”
Why? Because he was outraged by Residente’s recent remarks at the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Conferences on how many artists nowadays lack creativity.
In the track, he also called the former Calle 13 frontman a hypocrite for not considering himself a reggaeton artist.
Tempo opened the can of warms by dropping his track “Calle Sin Salida.”
As soon as Residente got the memo, the GRAMMY-winning artist dropped his response in an 8-minute track titled: “Mis Disculpas”.
According to his Instagram, it was the fastest song he wrote in his life. He also recorded it with a live band. In the song, Residente called out Tempo for not being “real,” pointed out the time he was arrested, and basically saco muchos trapitos al sol.
Following the lyric battle, although both artists have gone back-and-forth on social media, the storm has calmed down. Or has it?
Many urban artists, including J Alvarez, Arcangel, and Nicky Jam, have voiced their two cents. Fans, on the other hand, are convinced that Residente won this battle (and most probably the ones to come)—no if’s, and’s, or but’s.
